Meet My Brother’s Keeper
Brothers Joshua, Benjamin, and Titus Luckhaupt with Wyatt “Sawmill” Murray are “My Brother’s Keeper” – MBK, a Cincinnati Area based Bluegrass/Folk/Acoustic band.
From their Facebook Bio:
“MBK combines thoughtful musicianship, four part family harmony, and a nearly all original collection of songs to create music that is both unusual and approachable. Their unique and energetic blend of bluegrass, gospel, and rock and roll has allowed them to share their music all over the country, playing over 150 shows a year. MBK’s humor, energy and craftsmanship on stage has given them opportunity to share the bill with Jerry Douglas and the Earls of Leicester, The Grascals, Mountain Heart, and Dr. Ralph Stanley, to name a few.”
These handsome young men have grown up in Cincinnati, Ohio and West Harrison, Indiana surrounded by music. The brothers were raised on the genres of Folk, Bluegrass, and Gospel, and use this foundation to create their own original sound. “MBK features tight, four part harmonies, rock driven lead vocals, blazing solos, and complex and interlaced musical interludes.” Keep reading to learn more about this fastest rising Bluegrass band on the scene of Cincinnati music.
“…They have been burning up the southern Ohio bluegrass circuit with their contemporary, banjo-less sound that draws heavily on the brothers’ original music. Interestingly, My Brother’s Keep has just released a new album in May, The Cloud and the Clearing. Their new label will assist with promotional efforts on this project, but their first actual Poor Mountain release will be the next one.”
The Oldest brother was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Josh started playing the piano when he was 5 and then moved on to the violin. When asked which MBK song is his favorite, he replied “Lost No More. It has a really powerful message, great melody and is well recorded. ” Lost No More, featuring Emily Bankester, is on the album Revival
Benjamin, the middle brother and lead guitarist/ songwriter, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio just like his older brother. Benj started playing the guitar when he was 15 years old, but started with the piano when he was 5.
His favorite MBK song is Icarus on MBK’s new album, The Cloud and the Clearing . He says “The song never gets old to perform, and I always look forward to the crescendo. The lyrics, harmony and collaboration between the instruments is always enjoyable.”
The youngest brother, Titus, was born in Moore’s Hill, Indiana. Like his brothers before him, he started with the piano at age 5 and has since moved on to the Mandolin.
His favorite MBK song is Icarus. Titus explains “The lyrics seem to continually speak to me the more I sing it. I enjoy the collaborative music making process and I think Icarus has a little bit of everyone’s ideas. ”
Meet Wyatt Murray
Wyatt “Sawmill” Murray completes this ensemble on the upright bass, supplying a steady bass line influence. He was raised in “beautiful, lush” Brookville, IN. Wyartt started on the electric bass at age 13 in church “guitar club.” He adds “A few months later I got my own electric bass and started taking lessons.”
Wyatt’s favorite MKB song is A Sinner Like Me on the album The Cloud and the Clearing. He adds “I’m not a lyrically focused human, so it’s got a killer groove that makes me like it at first, but it also has a very simple, soft salvation message that holds a lot of meaning. ”
